This listing is for a Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical Pack that includes the 2005,2006 & 2007 Vintage. The listing also contains the collectable wine case. The reviews are listed below.
Lokoya Winery specializes in premium small lot wines (100% varietal Cabernet Sauvignon) exclusively from Napa grown hillside fruit from select locations. These are very limited production terroir driven concentrated wines. The name Lokoya is a tribute to the Native American tribe that inhabited what is now known as Mt. Veeder in the Mayacamas mountains towering above the western side of Napa Valley. Lokoya’s tastings are by advance reservation only, are for serious wine enthusiasts/collectors and are held at the estate of Cardinale in the Oakville region of the Napa Valley. Lokoya is owned by Jackson Family Wines who already owns a healthy portfolio of Napa based wineries (see our review of Cardinale for more information as well as a list of all Napa wineries they own); Lokoya is their premium holding. They produce Cabernet Sauvignons from Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder and more recently Spring Mountain.
Along the eastern side of the Napa Valley’s Vaca Range, Howell Mountain peaks at 2,500 feet. Since 1995, Lokoya has crafted a distinguished Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate vineyard on Howell Mountain. Surrounded by redwoods and towering pine trees, our Keyes Vineyard personifies the appellation’s cool climate and long growing season, challenging the vines to ripen. At a steep 1,900 foot elevation with a northwest-facing slope, the Lokoya block has soil that boasts a combination of large sandstone rocks, volcanic ash, red clay and conifer bio-matter, lending itself to the density and texture of the wine while revealing an earthy and herbal perfume.
96 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
Absolutely astounding is the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder. Bluish/black to the rim, with a gorgeous nose of creosote, incense, creme de cassis, blackberry, violets, espresso roast, and perhaps a hint of underlying chocolate, this is fabulously textured, low in acidity, high in tannin, but so, so rich, layered, and enthralling. This is a prodigious young Cabernet Sauvignon that should be at its best between 2013 and 2035.
95 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
The inky/ruby/purple-colored 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder exhibits a sumptuous nose of charcoal, burning embers, incense, black currant liqueur, blueberries, and hints of espresso roast and white chocolate. A sensationally concentrated, dense, full-bodied effort with high levels of sweet tannin, decent acidity, and a stunningly layered mouthfeel, this is a profound Cabernet Sauvignon to drink between 2012-2030+.
The 2007 Lokoya Howell Mountain creates that same feeling with incredible dark fruit components of blackberry and boysenberry, espresso bean, minerality, smoke, and spice. The complexity of flavor is an unmistakable evocation of the Howell Mountain landscape.
96 points The Wine Advocate “Classic aromas of graphite, crushed rocks, boysenberries, black raspberries, blackberries, and subtle wood soar from the glass of the inky/purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. Full-bodied and formidably endowed with awesome purity as well as a stunning, layered texture, this beauty has it all. Give it 5-6 years of bottle age and enjoy it over the next three decades. It is a prodigious Howell Mountain wine from Jess Jackson’s Keyes Vineyard.”
